The Vought F7U Cutlass was a novel tailess design for the US Navy. Suffering from technical and handling problems along with engines not living up to their billing, the Cutlass earned the unfortunate nickname 'The Ensign Eliminator'. It had a very short Naval career due to the speed of aircraft development, with the faster and more capable F-4 Phantom and F-8 Crusader waiting in the wings.
